#amreading: New LitMag on the Horizon: GAMUT from Richard Thomas

Yesterday saw the launch of the KickStarter campagin for GAMUT, a new literary magazine from Richard Thomas. I backed it as soon as it went live. You should back it too.

There is too much to say about GAMUT, but Richard is a great example of a hard working writer, teacher and editor. He has edited a number of my favourite and award-winning anthologies, taught a class I loved and his writing is top notch. If that wasn’t enough, he has assembled such a truly amazing coterie of staff and contributors that I would be surprised if you don’t find at least a couple of your favourites among them.

GAMUT has been blurbed by the likes of Chuck Palahniuk and Irvine Welsh.

The list of initial contributors is unbelievable: Stephen Graham Jones, Laird Barron, Brian Evenson, Usman T. Malik, Matt Bell, Damien Angelica Walters, Letitia Trent, Mercedes M. Yardley, Alyssa Wong, Benjamin Percy, Lindsay Hunter, Axel Taiari, Amanda Gowin, Laura Benedict, Nathan Ballingrud, Dino Parenti, Ted E. Grau, Rebecca Jones-Howe, Sarah Read, Paula Bomer, Kelly Luce, Livia Llewelyn, Josh Malerman, Carmen Machado, Peter Tieryas, Kevin Catalano, Paul Tremblay, John Langan, Nina McConigley, Nik Korpon, Craig Wallwork, Steve Himmer, Antonia Crane, Steve Rasnic Tem, Kristi DeMeester, Tara Ison, David James Keaton, Cassandra Khaw, Nikki Guerlain, Lucy A. Snyder, JS Breukelaar, Helen Marshall, Amelia Gray, H. L. Nelson, Craig Davidson, Jacklyn Dre Marceau, and Lincoln Michel. So many great voices.

The plan is to have new fiction on Mondays and reprints on Wednesdays with stretch goals for flash on Fridays and serials for Saturdays. That’s a lot of fiction.

And the kicker … GAMUT subscriptions are going to go for $60 annually, but if you back now it will run you $30. And you will be locked in at that rate as long as you maintain your subscription.

As a writer, you can’t beat the $0.10/word ($0.03 for reprints).

Want to get a taste what Gamut will be? This morning they posted WHEN THE LADY SPEAKS by Damien Angelica Walters for your reading pleasure.

Freestory

They’ve also added a couple of extra rewards, including a short story editing package at the $100 level (I mentioned that Richard is an amazing editor, right?).

Update: Day 3 adds 7 more of the “Subscription plus 4 Dark House Books titles” at the $60 level.

So click and back GAMUT now.
